Skim The Rail, one of only three fillies in the nine-horse field, outran her 11-1 odds to win the $50,000 Manzano Stakes for 2-year-olds at The Downs at Albuquerque on Sunday.

Trained by Justin Evans, Skim The Rail went 6 furlongs in 1:10.81 under jockey Jose Beitia, and her margin of victory was a neck from Stratagem, the 7-2 third choice in the wagering. The win was her second in three starts and first stakes score.

Skim The Rail was bred in Oklahoma by Clark O. Brewster. The filly became the fourth stakes winner from 173 starters sired by Latent Heat, an 11-year-old son of Maria’s Mon who won two graded stakes at Santa Anita Park from 2006-07, including the Grade 1, $250,000 Malibu Stakes in ’06.
